Résumé : | The organisation of this book follows the established style of successful series of which it forms part. It completes a detailed, graphically illustrated survey of the technology, hardware and tactics involved in all the main areas of current military activity. The principal weapon on the modern battlefield remains the tank, though the current generation offers vastly improved capabilities and even light armoured fighting vehicles are capable of bringing substantial firepower to bear. A range of more than 100 representative systems, including examples of all the main types of modern land warfare weapons, is presented in graphic form, along with specifications and background notes, in the book's central section. Finally, a section on tactics discusses some of the most significant actions in recent military history, as well as examining some general tactical principles. Battles from the Middle East to the Falklands and the basic approach to combined arms, artillery and other forms of land combat are described. |
