Résumé : |
Life and working conditions onboard are rapidly changing due to reduced manning, new regulations and the application of new technology and these issues have affected the role of the watchkeeper. Critical decisions by ship’s crews are, however, the fundamental element that affect lives, commercial prosperity and ensure safe, secure and efficient shipping on clean oceans. Are our modern crews given the resources they need to make these critical decisions correctly, all the time? Have on-board tasks fundamentally changed due to technology and are procedures and training keeping pace? The Nautical Institute is hosting a conference in the key maritime labour city of Delhi to address these issues and to ensure that the shipping industry continues to understand and support the role of the Human Element in shipping. Outcomes from this conference will enable delegates to make better decisions themselves, and assist the NI in their international work supporting those in control of seagoing craft. |
