In Stress: Basic Mechanisms and Clinical Implications George P. Chrousos and his co-authors present a comprehensive overview of the multiple facets of the stress response, a field that has seen rapid advancement in knowledge in the past few years. The authors describe the stress system and its components; the basic mechanisms of the stress response as well as its biochemical and pathophysiological mechanisms; the mechanisms of disease states resulting from dysregulation of the stress systems; and management strategies for disease. Cross-cultural studies and studies of the relationship of stress to temperament, aging, obesity, amenorrhea, and psychoneurotic disorders are also presented. |
