Abstract :
|
Three aspects of the book stand out. the first one is the contrastive approach. A pedagogical constrative grammar such a this one is mainly motivated by the assumption that it is the differences, rather than the similarities between English and Dutch witch cause difficulty for the Dutch-speaking learner of English. That is why the choice has been made to focus on the contrasts by systematically juxtaposing both languages in different grammatical areas? Nevertheless, this does not mean that the similarities between English and Dutch have been completely ignored. A second typical feature of this book is the fact that the examples used are authentic, real life examples witch can generally be used in conversational English. Thirdly this book constitutes a thorough preparation for those students who want to pursue the study of English at a post-secondary level.
