Résumé : | Modern warfare is constantly evolving, but information will always be the most important factor. With the use of multiple sensors, covering different wavelength bands, information is gathered. These sensors become more performant with increased resolutions. The downside is however an increased vulnerability and different systems trying to counteract the sensors. Because infrared (IR) cameras are widely used within Belgian Defence, developing methods to improve the resilience of these sensors is desired. This paper focuses more specifically on cooled midwave IR imagers, dazzled by a laser from a directional infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) system. The main objective is to find possible solutions against these dazzling effects. Therefore, the following research question is established: How can midwave thermal imaging systems be made resilient to in-band directed energy laser weapons? |
