Résumé : | In August 1914, with Europe on the edge of war, Germany sent an ultimatum informing neutral Belgium that it was about to cross her borders, and warning King Albert's government not to resist. But this tiny country, with its small and outdate army, chose to fight. The odds were hopeless and the country was soon overrun, but Belgium's gallant resistance gave France and Britain enough time to mobilize their forces. Thereafter, the rebuilt Belgian Army held the northern Flanders sector of the Western Front, and fought both against the German spring offensive and in the victorious Allied counter-offensive that followed. |
